Paano kayo naging NGO, or social enterprise? (How did you become a non-profit, or a social enterprise?)
Simple. The earnings we make from the multimedia services we offer go back to three things:
1. Subsidizing the communications efforts of other less funded advocacies; 2. Communications workshops and other projects such as Public, our much-awaited online publication, and Oneline.ph—our online communications volunteering hub (it’s a waaaaay cooler than it sounds, wait for our grand launch, we’ll announce soon); and 3. The day-to-day survival of our organization. In other words, the kids behind Idea!s don’t get rich because of it. Not financially, anyway. But we’re incredibly fulfilled. ;-)
What is a social enterpise?
This is a rather popular point of debate and discussion among social entrepreneurs and business people. Just because we’re a non-profit doesn’t mean we’re a social enterprise, because technically speaking, social enterprises can be either non-profit or for-profit, so long as the social impact of your organization outweighs the commercial aspect of it. So um, that’s what a social enterprise is. A cool definition I saw somewhere defines a social enterprise as any earned-income strategy employed by an organization in order to support a social mission. Short and sweet. If you want more colorful explanations, you can visit sites like Social Edge (www.socialedge.org) and YSEI (www.ysei.org).
How do you sustain yourselves?
Like I said earlier, we earn from the multimedia services we offer. So if you want to make this world a better place, hire us.
Ba’t niyo ginagawa ito? (Why are you doing this?)
Because we can.
And (no BS here), because we’re trained as designers/communicators, we believe that this is the best way we know how to help social development. If you have any other ideas, drop us a line in case we consider a change of careers.
How much are your fees?
As much as possible, we don’t dish out figures off the tops of our heads. Because each project may have certain special considerations. If you have a project for us, just drop us a line, and let’s set a meeting to discuss. We’re verrrry easy to talk to. And pleasant too. |
